First, let me commend the good people of Vermont. 

When your politicians voted to give homosexuals the same rights as married couples, you did not despair.  You fought back.  and on primary day, five Republicans who supported that moral outrage, were tossed out of office.

For that, God Bless Vermont.  In the struggle for the soul of America, --between decency and decadence--you have shown that defeats are not irreversible, that the battle is not lost.  You have set an example for the nation.
