[News broadcast intro-type music] Female Announcer: Labor Day weekend, Governor Bush accepts a record five national debates.

[Audio from Gore low in background] March 14, Al Gore says he'd debate on CNN.

[Audio from Gore low in background] July 16, Al Gore said he'd debate on NBC.

When it was politically convenient, Gore said he'd debate "anytime, any place, anywhere."

Now that Governor Bush has accepted, Gore says "unacceptable."

Does Al Gore now mean debates depend on his meaning of "anytime, anywhere?"

If we can't trust Al Gore on debates, why should we trust him on anything?

Analysis: This is largely a tactical ad, although it does try to bring into question Gore's trustworthiness.  There is a not too subtle attempt to link Gore to Clinton where the announcer questions whether debates "depend on his meaning of 'anytime, anywhere.'"  This recalls Clinton's infamous wordplay about "depends on what the meaning of the word 'is,' is."
