Announcer: A story about John McCain.  Senator Warren Rudman served with McCain in the U.S. Senate.

Senator Rudman: My favorite story about John McCain is the story about the Navy.  John is about as loyal a Navy guy as you'll find. Graduated from the Naval Academy, great naval war hero in the Vietnam war.

And yet there was a spending program for a particular submarine that John McCain thought was not good for America.

And he shocked all of his Navy friends and all the high ranking admirals.  And he came out and said I'm against this, I'm an authority on this subject,  you don't need it, and I'm going to stop it.

And John McCain essentially managed to reduce that program and saved the country literally several billion dollars.

People usually don't go against what is deeply engrained in John McCain, being the son and grandson of admirals.

But John McCain puts the country first.  Nothing else comes first.

Announcer: John McCain, the character to do what's right, the courage to fight for it.

John McCain: Paid for by McCain 2000.
