Announcer: A story about John McCain.  Frank Gamboa was a classmate of McCain's at the Naval Academy.

Frank: John and I decided to take noon lunch in the mess hall and found ourselves sitting with a first classman.

As the steward started serving the table,  the first classman was very demeaning and arrogant.

The Philipino steward appeared flustered.  I looked over to John and I could tell he was getting angry.  John said to the first classman, mister, why don't you pick on someone  your own size.  And I about  choked on my food when he said that.

You never challenge the authority of an upperclassman.  The upperclassman said to John, what did you say?  And John said, that steward is doing the best he can.  The first classman said what's your name mister?  He said it's John McCain third class what's yours? It was a remarkable demonstration of just raw moral courage.  Give me a couple of weeks and I might have been that brave!

Announcer: John McCain, the character to do what's right, the courage to fight for it.

John McCain: Paid for by McCain 2000.
