Iowa Legislators Meet Governor Bush, Encourage Him To Seek Presidential
Nomination
Legislative delegation travels to Texas, are "impressed"
with Governor's message
DES MOINES, IA - A delegation of twelve Iowa state senators and representatives traveled to the Texas state capitol of Austin today to meet with Governor George W. Bush and encourage him to consider seeking the Republican nomination for President of the United States. The delegation presented the Governor with a letter, signed by forty-four of the fifty-six (79%) Republican state representatives and twenty-two of the thirty (73%) Republican state senators, asking him to make a bid to become our nation's 43rd President.
State Representative Chuck Larson, Jr. (R-Cedar Rapids), led the delegation that included Senate President Mary Kramer (R-West Des Moines) and Senate Majority Leader Stewart Iverson (R-Dows). "Our visit with Governor Bush was positive and encouraging," said Larson. "The Governor offers the type of leadership and vision we need in our next President."
The delegation was impressed with Governor Bush's track record of leading the nation's 2nd largest state. "The Governor has a proven conservative record of cutting taxes and protecting the family budget," noted Larson. "He has reduced the Texas welfare rolls nearly 50% during his tenure and led the battle for tort reform. And his plan for education, to deny no one the opportunity to read and excel in our fast-changing world, is second to none."

Dear Governor Bush:
America will elect her 43rd President soon and our Republican Party needs our best candidates in the race.
As Governor of Texas, your record of cutting taxes, reforming welfare, reducing frivolous lawsuits, and improving schools has impressed us.
As a Republican candidate, your ability to earn the votes of women, minorities, Independents, and conservative Democrats has won our respect.
For 30 years, Iowa is the place where presidential candidates got their start. This is a role we cherish and a responsibility we take very seriously.
Governor Bush, we urge you to run for President of the United States.
Iowans will welcome your
candidacy with open arms.
Sincerely,
Chuck Larson, Jr.
