Montgomery -- Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor and 38 Republican officials, including a majority of GOP legislators, sent a letter to Texas Governor George W. Bush urging him to run for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2000.
"Our nation needs and experience leader who will promote conservative principles, such as personal responsibility, lower taxes, economic freedom, and limited government," the group wrote.
In addition to General Pryor, the letter was signed by Lieutenant Governor Steve Windom, Secretary of State Jim Bennett, and an overwhelming majority of State House and Senate Republican Caucus members.
"George W. Bush represents America's best hope for returning integrity to the White House, tax dollars to working families and keeping criminals off our streets," said Pryor. "I am impressed with his thoughtful contributions to juvenile justice reform, civil justice reform and his no-nonsense approach to government."
Greg Wren, Vice-Chair of the House Republican Caucus praised Bush's "commitment to personal and professional integrity." "It's time we have a President we can be proud of." Added Senator Larry Dixon, "His leadership and moral character have never been more necessary in the Oval office."
Lieutenant Governor Steve
Windom said, "I can think of no better person to lead our nation into the
next century, and I am pleased to stand with those asking him to seek our
party's nomination."
