Draft BUSH 2000 Committee
Gerald B.H. Solomon, Chairman Market Square, Suite 750 801 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, DC 20004 |
With so many candidates already in the race for president, the depth of support displayed by the number of current and former representatives in Congress for Governor Bush is truly remarkable.
The members of the Draft BUSH 2000 Committee already represent every region of the country and the entire spectrum of Republican politics.
We had a serious, thoughtful discussion about the appeal of Governor Bush and his compassionate conservative message nationwide and committed ourselves to testing the waters further at the state, county, city and town levels.
We discussed how compassionate conservatism is really the life-blood of the Republican party. It clearly conveys how our approach to government and belief in American values can really make everyday life better for Americans who are struggling or suffering.
We are completely committed to George W. Bush because there is real movement among the American public in support of his message and his leadership. His broad public appeal, including women and minorities, is wider and broader than any I can remember at this point in American presidential politics.
The movement even eclipses that for Ronald Reagan in 1979 which is saying
an awful lot.
The Honorable George W. Bush
Governor of the State of Texas Texas State Capitol Austin, Texas 78700 Dear Governor Bush: We, as members and former members of the United States House of Representatives,
committed to the Republican ideals of less government, lower taxes, personal
responsibility, and a strong national defense, hereby ask you, because
of your exemplary performance as Governor of Texas and adherence to these
ideals, to commit to running for the office of President of the United
States. By our signatures below, we demonstrate our commitment to
you, and to our effort to the Draft Bush for President Committee 2000.
