Current	Gov. Bush announced Cheney as his running mate on July 25, 2000. Gov. Bush announced Cheney would head his vice presidential search on April 25, 2000. Chairman of the Board and CEO of Halliburton Company from 1995; resigned effective July 25, 2000.
Career	Secretary of Defense from March 1989 to January 1993, directing Operation Just Cause in Panama and Operation Desert Storm in the Middle East. Elected to Congress from Wyoming in 1978 and was re-elected five times; chairman of the Republican Policy Committee 1981-87; elected chairman of the House Republican Conference in 1987; elected House Minority Whip in 1988. Served on the transition team to the Ford administration and as deputy assistant to the president; White House chief of staff from November 1975 to the end of Ford's term. Served in the Nixon administration starting in 1969, including positions at the Cost of Living Council, the Office of Economic Opportunity and in the White House.
Activities	Serves on boards of various organizations.
Education	University of Wyoming, BA and MA degrees.
Family	Married Lynne Ann Vincent in 1964; two children, daughters Liz and Mary.
Religion	Methodist.
