AMERICAN DIALOGUE: PROSPERITY AND PROGRESS
The Honorable Alexis Herman
Secretary of Labor

Panel 1: Success Stories
The Honorable Jeanne Shaheen
Governor of New Hampshire

Frederic and Yvette Evans of Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Their dream of owning a home was made possible by Clinton-Gore led prosperity. Instead of losing money on rent, they now have an affordable mortgage.  With the strong economy, they felt comfortable to buy a house and start a family.

Joseph Rosel, Jr.
A third generation steelworker at Bethlehem Steel, Rosel was able to keep his job because of Clinton-Gore efforts to train workers in new technologies.  Under the Clinton-Gore Administration, the steel industry has been able to recover from the downsizing of the 80’s, and Bethlehem Steel has hired more than 1,000 employees in the last four years.

David Skromme of San Mateo, California
Skromme owns FASTSIGNS, a small business that makes a variety of signs for corporate trade shows, high tech firms, transportation companies and small businesses. During the Clinton-Gore Administration, more than 2.2 million new small businesses have been created.

Panel 2: Issues for Working Families:
The Honorable Gary Locke
Governor of Washington

Marilyn Casey of Chantilly, Virginia
Casey was able to take leave from her job to care for a terminally ill parent because of the Family and Medical Leave Act, the first bill enacted into law by the Clinton-Gore Administration.

Grace Delgado of Chicago, Illinois
A community police officer with the Chicago Police Department, Delgado has worked closely with troubled communities to help get drugs, gangs and violent criminals off the streets.  Since 1994, the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) initiative has provided funding to hire more than 100,000 new police officers.

Maria "Elizabeth" Fuentes
The earned income tax credit (EITC) has enabled Ms. Fuentes, an immigrant and working mother, to make a better life for her children.

David Robar of Concord, New Hampshire
Since suffering a spinal cord injury that left him a quadriplegic, Robar has relied on Medicaid personal attendant benefits to enable him to work part-time. The Vice President fought for and the President signed the Jeffords-Kennedy legislation that will allow states the option of providing critically needed Medicaid services, to individuals with disabilities, who choose to return to work.
