Career Following the 1998 elections, Gingrich decided not to seek re-election to the Speakership.  He left Congress in January 1999, after representing Georgia's 6th congressional district (Cobb County and northern suburbs of Atlanta) since the 1978 election.  
Elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in January 1995 after leading Republicans to a majority in the 1994 elections. 
Chaired GOPAC, a political action committee, from 1986-94. 
House Republican Whip, 1989-94. 
Elected to the House in 1978, after unsuccessful runs in 1974 and 1976. 
Taught History and Environmental Studies at West Georgia College for eight years. 
 
Activities Co-founder of Earning By Learning, a program that rewards underprivileged children for reading. 
Very active with Habitat for Humanity. 
Active with Zoo Atlanta.  He "has personally donated an endanger black rhinoceros and two endangerd Komodo dragons to it."
