July 12 on CNN's Larry King Live, Smith announces he will leave the GOP / July 13 in a speech on the Senate floor, Smith announces he is leaving the Republican Party.

Press Secretary Karen Hickey
Deputy press secretary in Smith's Senate office from June 1997-March 1999.  Other experience includes membership director at the Federalist Society; attended the National Journalism Center for six months; LC for Congressman Ed Royce (CA); and worked in the communications department at Citizens for a Sound Economy for a year.

Treasurer John Denning
Prior to the campaign was working as a computer consultant; graduated from UNH in 1994.

Field Director Dave Nelson
In 1996 Nelson did volunteer work for Pat Buchanan.  He ran for the Iowa House of Reps, district 69 (East Des Moines) in 1998; Sen. Smith did a fundraiser for him.  Outside of politics Nelson works in annuities and was previously self-employed in real estate.


New Hampshire

New Hampshire Chairman/Senior National Policy Advisor  Judy Thayer
Serves on the board of the Children's Scholarship Fund (provides vouchers to students to enable them to attend independent and parochial schools in New Hampshire).  A former teacher and former chairman of the New Hampshire Board of Education.  Co-chaired Jack Kemp's 1988 presidential campaign.

Field Director Kevin Smith
(no relation) A former state representative from Londonderry.  Authored the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Bill in 1997.

Office Manager Barbara Hagan
Former New Hampshire vice-chairman of Eagle Forum, past President of the New Hampshire Right to Life Committee, a Buchanan Delegate at the 1996 Republican National Convention.

Executive director of the Republican Party of Louisiana from July 1997-Dec. 1998.  Since then has managed a couple of legislative campaigns and started a publication and radio show "Politically Speaking Louisiana Style."  Started a consulting firm August 1996.
