Week 1: Wednesday Jan. 19 to Tuesday Jan. 25, 2000
A total of 52 primary-related ads were found.  Totals this week were boosted by the special "Primary Primer" tabloid which appeared in the Jan. 25 paper and included twenty-four ads; eight of these were small ads for Mark Greenstein, an obscure Democratic candidate from Culver City, California.  If one doesn't include the "Primary Primer," political advertising was much sparser than in the week leading up to the primary.  For example on the first day of this period, Jan. 19, there were a total of three political ads; these were all put in by interest groups; there was not a single candidate ad.  On Jan. 21, only one primary-related ad was found in the paper.  During this entire week seven political ads not related to the primary appeared (code "N"; not included in totals).
