USA Today--A bullet at the bottom of a page 1A article on McCain refers readers to page 7A.  The article on page 7A, by USA Today's Martin Kasindorf and Richard Benedetto, is headlined "Gore shifts attention to GOP candidates."  The accompanying photo by Luke Frazza, Agence France-Presse, captioned "Pre-debate exercise:," shows Gore and a daughter jogging on the beach.   Although a quick glance at the headline and photo do not make it clear, the text of the article is solidly focused on the debate.

New York Times--No front page appearance.  One sentence in the News Summary on page A2.  The paper has three pages of campaign coverage.  The debate coverage is on page A22 running top to bottom in the three leftmost columns.  It comprises a photo, a medium wide shot by Nicole Bengiveno showing Gore and Bradley shaking hands before the debate, with some audience visible in the background; the article, headlined "Gore and Bradley in a Harmonious Exchange" by the Times' James Dao and Katharine Q. Seelye; and "In Their Own Words" which has a debate excerpt on defending Taiwan.  Also, on the right part of the page nestled in an article "Bradley Backers Already in Mourning" is another Nicole Bengiveno photo showing two people explaining the debate format to Bradley.

Washington Post--Page one article, no photos whatsoever.  The article, by the Post's Ceci Connolly and Mike Allen, is in two columns on the left side of the front page with the headline just above the fold: "Debaters Tone It Down" and the subhead "Gore, Bradley Agreeable on Most Issues."  The article continues across the bottom of page A7 under the headline "Toning Down Divisions, Democrats Have a Mostly Agreeable Debate."  (The top part of A7 has other election news and the opposite page, A6, is a full page on McCain.  Note that the Post's coverage of the March 2 Republican debate was almost identical in terms of layout).

Washington Times--An article on the debate by the Times' Andrew Cain ran on A1 under an unrelated photo (McCain).  The article, which had the headline "Bradley and Gore aim criticism at Republican hopefuls," continued on page A6.

Los Angeles Times--In addition to regular coverage in its front section, the Times produced a special six-page section with a complete transcript of the debate and nine photos of the candidates.
