Bradley

Bradley's supporters had an energetic presence around the Dartmouth Green prior to the debate.  In addition to the normal sign-waving and chanting, one group drove around in an RV using a loudspeaker to make the case for Bradley.

At one point during the debate Bradley was handed an easy opportunity to attack Gore.  A questioner asked, "As a Democrat, Sir, would you comment on the behavior of the '96 Clinton-Gore campaign as it relates to fundraising?" Bradley rejected the opening, responding, "I think there were obviously some irregularities that have been addressed.  I'm not going to get into the details at this stage of the game..."  Bradley's response to a question on leadership also drew notice; he cited Jimmy Carter (honesty and integrity), Woodrow Wilson ("the ability to see around the corners") and Mikhail Gorbachev (courage) as examples.

The Bradley campaign's post-forum spin efforts paled in comparison to those of the vice president.  Bradley himself left right after the debate, although quite a few members of his campaign team were available in the media filing center.  The campaign produced a rebuttal document, "Gore's Attack on Bradley Health Plan is Inaccurate," which appeared in media filing center the next day.  Commenting on the Bradley approach, a campaign spokesperson later said that Bradley believed he could let his words speak for themselves.
