Plan." The prominent centrally placed Pool
Photo, is a medium shot that shows Gore speaking while Bradley looks on.
The article continues on page A20 under the headline "Democrats Sound Similar
Themes In First Joint Appearance in N.H." (There is also a photo
of Bradley greeting supporters in Hanover).
Washington Times--Front
page article. Article by the Times' Bill Sammon is headlined
"Gore
again chides Clinton for affair during N.H. debate" and subheaded
"Cites oath of office in defending boss." Continuation on page A14
is accompanied by an AP photo, a medium shot of Gore
speaking and Bradley looking on. On page A22 is an editorial
cartoon on the debate by the Times' Garner.
Boston Globe--Front page article and photo. The lead article, by the Globe's Michael Kranish, ran on the front page and carried the headine "Gore spars with Bradley on care plan" with the subhead "Few moments of discord at N.H. forum." Also on the front page is a smallish photo showing the two candidates shaking hands with the Dartmouth president in the background and a "News Analysis" "Staking claim as successor no easy task" by David M. Shribman. On page A21 is a color piece "A day among the public before the event" by Jill Zuckman and Michael Kranish. Also on page A20 is an article by Zuckman "Republicans in spotlight tonight." Los Angeles Times--Front page article. The article, by the Times' Ronald Brownstein, ran below the fold under the headline "Gore, Bradley Go Shoulder to Shoulder at Town Meeting." It continued across the top part of page A26, "CANDIDATES: Gore, Bradley Field Questions in N.H." and included a Reuters medium shot showing Gore speaking and Bradley looking on. Further, excerpts ran on page A28 in two columns on the top half of the page; these comprised responses by the candidates on three different subjects each. Union Leader (Manchester, NH)--Inconspicuous front page article, no front page photo; however most of the back page of the front section is filled with coverage of the town meeting. The lead article, by the Union Leader's Michael Cousineau, carries the headline "Gore, Bradley tangle gently." The article continues on the back page of the front section where there are also two photos and two more articles: an Associated Press photo shows Gore speaking as Bradley looked on, an article by Associated Press writer Holly Ramer is headlined "Campaign's not all high-tech; some of it's old-fashioned hoopla," another AP photo shows a couple of Bradley supporters with painted faces and an article by Cousineau is headlined "International media horde swamps Dartmouth College 'town meeting.'" Valley News (Lebanon, NH--the local paper)--Coverage, including two photos and three articles, filled about 2/3rds of the front page; inside, on page A5, there was a full page of town meeting coverage with three more photos, continuations of the front page articles and two more articles. On the front page: Below the header "Similar Visions, Similar Themes" is a large, color, wide-shot photo by Molly Lamb of the Valley News showing the two candidates, Gore speaking and Bradley looking on, and audience in the background. The lead article, by the Washington Post's Dan Balz and Ceci Connolly is headlined "Bradley, Gore Spar Politely at Dartmouth." Below the fold there is an "Analysis" piece by Valley News staff writers Rich Barlow and Dan Billin "Contrasting Styles on Stage," a color photo of supporters cheering before the forum, and a related color piece by Valley News staff writers Jim Kenyon and Sarah Taylor "Cold, No Series, but a Thrill." The inside page articles are "It Was a Media Circus, and Then Some" by Alex Leary and "Baseball Is Favorite Bar None-Almost" by Valley News staff writer Dan Mack.
