Overview
Steve Forbes dropped out of the race on Feb. 10 as a result of his third place showing in the Delaware primary.  Forbes finished behind Sen. John McCain who had not even campaigned in the state.  In the 1996 primary Forbes had finished first with 10,709 votes (32.68%) to 8,909 (27.18%) for Bob Dole and 6,118 (18.67%) for Pat Buchanan out of 32,773 votes cast.

The Bush campaign announced the opening of an office at 2 Mill Road in Wilmington on Dec. 8, 1999; attorney Jim Ursomarso served as executive director.  The campaign announced its Delaware leadership on Oct. 15, 1999 with State Attorney General W. Laird Stabler, Jr. serving as state chairman.

Lisa Stone ran Forbes' Delaware campaign.  State chairman was House Majority Leader Wayne Smith and co-chairman State Sen. John Still, both announced Sept. 9, 1999.
