Donald Trump issued this somewhat cryptic statement, complete with a couple of typos, in July 1999:

      STATEMENT OF DONALD J. TRUMP

Many Americans have urged me to seek the Presidency of the United States as a candidate of the Reform Party.

My record of accomplishment in business and my outspoken views on trade, education and other issues have led people to believe I would be a strong candidate and a strong President.

I have great respect for the Reform Party and what they have accomplished in such a short period of time.

I does seem that the two major parties are lost when it comes to finding solutions to America's problems.

While I have not decided to become a candidate at thsi time, if the Reform Party nominated me, I would probably run and probably win.  If I won, I would ask for an immediate recount.

I am honored that so many Americans think I would be a good President an am flattered by my showing in the early Reform Party polls, especially since I have none nothing to promote a candidacy.
