June 18, 1999--Culminating
a busy week which saw his first major campaign fundraiser, at the Waldorf
Astoria in New York City on June 16, and the official opening of his Iowa
headquarters in Des Moines on June 17, Forbes celebrated the official opening
of his NH headquarters on Elm Street in downtown Manchester.
The storefront headquarters opened for business in early May. At the time of the headquarters grand opening, Forbes had one of the larger campaign staffs in the state, if not the largest. In his speech to sign-waving supporters, Forbes announced what he termed "the most comprehensive New Hampshire ground organization to date" comprising 321 supporters and activists. New Hampshire TV viewers had also been seeing a fair bit of Forbes during this period courtesy of a major advertising blitz the campaign launched on June 2. This was Forbes' eighth visit to the Granite State in 1999 and his eighteenth visit since January 1997. He spent a full day in New Hampshire starting with a call in to "Morning Attitude with Arnie & Todd" on WSMN (AM-1590) and finishing with a speech to the Waterville Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce's 27th annual reception at Campton before heading on to Boston. |
