Boldin has been in the health field since 1983, and worked his way through college by working as a paramedic. Today, he is a nurse practitioner advocating passage of a patients’ bill of rights. 

Betty Diznik of Tamarik, Florida
A 73-year-old widow with four children and four grandchildren, Diznik is on Medicare and purchases supplemental health insurance, which does not include prescription drug coverage. Living on an annual income of approximately $23,000, she spends approximately $450-500 a month to purchase the medications she needs. 

Joe Torres of Camden, New Jersey
After being diagnosed with a rare liver disease, Torres received a new liver in July 1997. He now speaks out whenever he can about the importance of organ donation.

Carole Price of Maryland 
On August 20, 1998, Carole Price’s 13-year-old son, John Joseph Price, went to his neighbor’s house to play. The nine-year-old neighbor shot John while showing off a 9 mm handgun he had found in the house.

Jodie Gaines Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee
In 1978, Gaines was kidnapped, held in captivity, and repeatedly raped by three men. She escaped shortly before her assailants planned to kill her. She was forced to re-live her ordeal when she learned that the court planned to release the perpetrators without her knowledge. Two of her assailants have been released while one remains in prison.
